MOTAT

This is the first time Mark or I visited the MOTAT- or museum of transportation and technology. We didn't get to see all the displays, or really enjoy the whole museum as we went for a Military Day event, but we saw enough of it that we are excited to go back with Geoff  (Mark's brother) when he visits in April.

The MOTAT is spread over two sites. One area houses all kinds of trains, trams, a whole mini village and lots of displays on phones, music, video games and computers among other technologies. The second site houses all kinds of planes. The military day was taking place at the second site, but we didn't know that until we showed up at the primary site. There were several events, but we had specifically come for the air craft fly overs and we had a bit of time before that was to happen so we decided to look at a few displays before heading over.

A photo where Thomas is awake - other than some of the walk we did in Cornwall park the other night, this is one of Thomas's first trips out of the house where he was awake and looking at the colours and people as we were walking around.

Some of the trains at the museum, along with some of the employees. We spent an hour and a half here before walking over to the second site. It wasn't that far and only took about 15 minutes. Once we arrived at the Military day, we were greeted by all kinds of military paraphernalia, food stalls, crowds of people and general glee and happiness. Mark spent some time looking at some of the vehicles they had on display.

These are two of the planes that did a fly over. There were a few other ones, but Thomas wasn't too impressed when some of the military vehicles started to shoot blanks at the planes. It was rather loud and close.  Mark got a few more photos as we headed back inside to the permanent plane display.

Inside, there were all kinds of cool airplanes and lots of interesting facts and notes on them. We only spent a bit of time looking at the displays knowing that we would be coming back and having spent the better part of four hours out and about with the baby. One of the highlights for me was having Thomas complete his first photobomb. Mark was trying to take a picture of one of the planes and I just held the baby up in front of the camera. Parents have to have fun too....right?

Cornwall Park

One place Thomas has been to a lot is Cornwall Park. I'm not exactly a stay at home and sit around kind of person, even with a baby. Thomas and I go for a walk each Sunday morning with friends from school and Cornwall park is in the rotation of walks. We also go walking with some of our Mummy friends from my prenatal class and we walk here as well. It's got great paved pathways, lots of trees, beautiful flowers and lots of livestock - both cattle and sheep are plentiful.

One one of the hot evenings, Mark and I decided to take Thomas for a walk while we waited for it to cool down enough to cook some dinner for ourselves. There was so much green around that you sort of forget you are in the middle of Auckland. We also had a good chuckle as it seemed that every time we were walking by any cars on the road they were always waiting for sheep or cattle to get out of the way.
